Top 5 Mistakes OET Takers Commit in the Reading Sub-Test

Aside from knowing the reading sub-test’s format and coverage, you must also know what you should and shouldn’t do to get a high score in this exam. This article tackles the latter.

Don’t sabotage your chances of OET success. Pay attention to your reading strategy when you answer mock tests at the OET review center in Davao. Make sure you’re not committing any of the following mistakes.

1. Disregarding spelling

Unlike in the listening sub-test, OET assessors are stricter when it comes to spelling errors in the reading sub-test. They won’t give points to answers that are incorrectly spelled. In Part A of the reading sub-test, it’s crucial that you write the required word or phrase the exact same way that they were mentioned in the text. So, don’t improvise. Make a habit out of double-checking your answers when you take mock reading tests during your OET Davao course.

4. Not leaving time to check your answers

The reading sub-test is designed so that the time given is enough for candidates to read the texts, select their answers, and check their work. So, don’t expect that you’d get extra time to check your answers. Manage your time wisely. Leave a couple of minutes for double-checking your spellings and making sure you placed your answers in the right places.

5. Not changing the word(s) so it’ll fit in the summary gap properly
