1. Take a walk before your training session.
It’ll
help you get into the right mindset for intensive review. Here’s why. There are
certain parts of your brain—ones that are essential for memory formation and
retention—that grow idle when you sit still for long periods. Walking can keep
this from happening. The physical activity and change of scenery that walking
involves will heighten your cognitive faculties and make you more receptive to
new information.
2. Keep a review notebook.
Studies
show that people who write down their notes retain approximately 80% more than
those who type out their notes. So, stick to the traditional way of
note-taking. Keep a pen and notebook handy during your OET exam preparation classes.
3. Develop mnemonic devices.
Mnemonic
involves using a string of letters, a word, a phrase, a rhyme and other memorable
devices to help you recall various information. Here are some examples.
·
The
seven coordinating conjunctions (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, and so) can be
condensed into the acronym: FANBOY.
·
The
order of taxonomy (Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, and Species)
can be condensed into the sentence: Kids prefer cheese over fried green
spinach.
Come
up mnemonic devices for OET lessons that are difficult to remember. Keep it
simple and catchy.
4. Listen to your lessons.
Do
you remember information better when you hear them? If so, you’re probably an
auditory learner. Maximize this inclination. Listen to audio materials that
discuss topics that are related to OET. Find audio versions of your training
materials or record yourself reading them out loud.
5. Answer as many OET mock tests as you can.
Repetition
is one of the best ways to remember something long-term. So, answer as many
English and OET practice exams as you can. Pay attention to your results. Take
note of the items that you got wrong and focus on making sure you don’t commit
the same mistake again.
