Nursing Career Opportunities in the UK
The United
Kingdom has some of the world’s leading hospitals, clinics, health centers, and
other medical institutions that offer remarkable professional development
opportunities for international nurses. In 2018, around 144,000 non-British
nurses are working in various healthcare settings in the UK. If you’re a nurse
enrolled in an OET review in Quezon City who wants to get a nursing job in the UK,
then check out these nursing career opportunities in the United Kingdom.
• Registered Nurse (RN)
Everyday duties
that an RN performs include attending to and caring for the patients. A
registered nurse is also responsible for handing out medications to their
patients. RNs are often given the responsibility to lead other nurses and
manage their work schedules. A registered nurse in the UK can earn an average
hourly wage of £22.
• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
Licensed
practical nurses work under the supervision of a registered nurse or a
physician. Although the job of an LPN is almost the same as that of an RN, the
main duties of a licensed practical nurse are taking care of patients and
following orders from the RN lead. The average pay for an LPB is £14 per hour.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
A CNA is the
basic position of nursing. Nurses working at this level are the spine of the
medical institution because they deal with patients more than any other nursing
positions. Their main job includes feeding, bathing, and performing other
nursing tasks for the patients. CNAs can earn an average pay of £8 per hour.
• Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)
Licensed
vocational nurses work in various institutions such as schools, public and
private offices, and churches. An LVN’s (also called Occupational Health Nurse)
main job is to take care of injured workers at the workplace or children at
schools. The median hourly salary for an LVN is £20.
• Public Health Nurse (PHN)
There are some
registered nurses with training on how to handle healthcare issues affecting
the public. Their main responsibility is to keep track of the communicable
diseases or any epidemics in the UK. The regular pay for an LPB is £14 per
hour.
One final reminder: To practice as a nurse in any of the
above types of nursing in the UK, you must first get a registration from the
Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) in the United Kingdom.
