Why do OET takers need to have an acceptable ID for the exam? What types of ID do OET administrators accept? How important is it to have one? What will happen if you fail to present one on your test date?
If your
self-study efforts or OET preparation course instructor
failed to cover these questions, don’t worry. This article can help you out! Find
the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about acceptable IDs
below. Consider them during your OET review period to make sure everything goes
well on your test date.
1. Why do I need to have an acceptable ID for OET?
It’s
a requirement when applying for the exam. If you don’t have one, you won’t be
able to book the test. You also need to present an ID—specifically the one that
you provided during registration—before you can sit the exam.
2. What IDs are accepted?
If
you’re taking the test outside of
Australia, you can submit either your valid
passport or the official National
Identity card of the country in which you’re taking the exam. It’s best
that you ensure you have either before you start your test prep and enroll review center for OET. Also, make sure that your ID is
valid up until after your test date.
If
you’re taking the test in Australia,
you can either submit your valid
passport or an Authorization Letter
request. Check out the fourth question on this list to find out how.
3. What IDs are not accepted?
OET
does not accept driver’s license, professional ID, and voter’s ID as proof of
identity.
4. What if I don’t have any of the IDs accepted by OET?
Don’t
worry. You can still take the test. All you have to do is submit an
authorization letter request upon booking the exam. To do so, you’ll have to
accomplish this document and submit three colored certified ID
documents.
Here
are the ID documents that you can submit.
o
A
valid driver’s license
o
A
valid health insurance card
o
A
current Working With Children Check card
o
A travel
document issued by an immigration authority
o
An
expired passport
At
least two of the ID documents you provide must contain your full name, date of
birth, and a colored photo. Otherwise, OET may not consider your application.
5. What will happen if I forgot to bring my ID to the test
center?
You
won’t be able to sit the exam. It doesn’t matter if you’ve already prepared and
paid for the test. If you can’t present the original version of the ID you
submitted during registration, you won’t be allowed to take it. So, make sure
you don’t forget yours on your test date.
6. What will happen if my application details don’t match
those of my submitted ID document?
You
won’t be allowed to take the exam. If your application details don’t match
those of your ID’s, the OET admin will consider you a different person from the
one who booked the test.
Having an
acceptable ID is a must for every OET test taker. So, make sure you get yours
in order before applying for the test and enrolling in an OET preparation course!
